 We're excited to announce that phase II of the ballfield improvements is underway - you may have noticed the new lights that went in earlier this Summer (phase I).
Phase II includes a refresh of the ballfield area including new drainage, improved viewing, a knee wall, modest dugouts, a rain garden, wider and improved sidewalks, walkways and stair access. This is a key component of the Excelsior Commons Master Plan and complements both the Pavilion and the Plaza. Thank you to everyone that made this possible, including the Minnetonka Diamond Club and the Excelsior Morning Rotary for their generous gifts, we are very grateful.

We're excited to announce the volunteer schedule for the upcoming season in Excelsior's gardens. Volunteers are welcome at all levels, whether you're a beginner or an experienced gardener. If you are able to get outside and enjoy the Commons in the coming weeks, be on the look out for the many bulbs planted by volunteers last year that will soon be blooming!
The first of many groundbreaking ceremonies for the Excelsior Bandshell project on 2/18. Thank you to all who worked tirelessly to make this dream a reality. Specific thanks to the City of Excelsior council and city staff, Excelsior Morning Rotary, the PAC committee, our design, and construction partners, and the Community for The Commons board volunteers.
Public engagement will be online, due to COVID-19 The Sun Sailor 7/16/20 - Community for the Commons, along with residents, created a master plan to refresh the Excelsior Commons park, according to Eric Snyder, chair of the Community for the Commons board. The plan was broken into phases and the bandshell was decided to be the first project.  The City of Excelsior is moving forward with the design phase for a new bandshell. A design committee has been appointed and includes representatives from the City's Park Commission, Heritage Preservation Commission and Community for The Commons. Funds for the new structure will come from revenues from the resident docks as well as fundraising efforts by Community for The Commons. The Excelsior Lake Minnetonka Rotary will continue to operate the summer Concerts in The Commons series with a portion of the funds raised going to reduce the City's share of the project.
The MN State Legislature has approved Excelsior's request to implement a sales tax within the City. Funds raised will go towards the implementation of The Commons Master Plan.
The Excelsior City Council recently approved adopt-a-tree and adopt-a-seat programs as presented by Community for the Commons.
The Community for the Commons brought these programs to the council as an option to help fund the continued maintenance of the Commons Park, which is a 13-acre municipal park that was developed in 1854 on the shores of Lake Minnetonka on Lake Street… Excelsior City Council has approved the Adopt A Tree & Seat program for The Commons!
